Please name your RCP or the reason you want to join the RCP Network

I will be working on community engagement and outreach with the Hudson to Housatonic RCP in 2019-2020 on a forest mapping and ecosystem services project in Westchester County NY. We'll be looking at the benefits of forests and open space for urban heat island mitigation, carbon sequestration, stormwater runoff mitigation and air quality in a demonstration project designed to be replicable by other organizations with data available for other areas in the US.

What has your RCP or organization done that others will be interested in learning?

The organization I'm working with on this project (and others), the Institute for Sustainable Cities at Hunter College in NY City is working on research and education about climate change adaptation, strategies for resilience, and links between health and ecosystems, including areas in and near cities. Another related project, Growing Green Cities, is a startup initiative focused on education and collaborations on the co-benefits of trees, green space and nature experience for health, sustainability and social cohesion. The launch conference videos and materials are at this link: http://www.cunysustainablecities.org/growing-green-cities/

What are you interested in working on with other members of the RCP Network?

Education, demonstration projects, research, policy analysis, potentially advocacy on policy issues, or other work to advance conservation, sustainability and improved access to natural areas and nature experience for all people. I am particularly interested in finding opportunities to work with organizations working on public health, health care and wellness, and ones working on social and environmental justice, and I am also working with several partner organizations that work in nature education for children and I plan to do more of this.
