The Forest Society of Maine seeks a Forestland Conservation Specialist who will work with landowners, partner organizations, and communities to deliver FSM’s land trust mission by successfully bringing lasting conservation to forestlands in Maine.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Forestland Conservation Specialist will work to initiate and respond to inquiries from landowners and partners to develop and successfully complete new conservation projects. Working with all staff and partners this person will provide project management for all aspects of land conservation projects. This person will be required to build and maintain relationships with landowners and project partners as well as establish sound working relationships with appraisers, lawyers, surveyors, realtors, and other professionals all in an effort to successfully conserve forestlands in Maine. Occasional night and weekend travel may be required.
Candidates are expected to have at a minimum a bachelor’s degree in a natural resource related field. S/he must be detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills. A basic knowledge of working forest conservation easements, negotiations skills, and an understanding of the social, political, economic, and ecological issues of Maine’s North Woods is required.
